If you hadn’t guessed from the picture, I turned 26 this past weekend surrounded by some of the best friends a girl could ask for – not to mention views. I’m excited for another year full of adventure, but I also reflected on the past year.
I’ll be honest: 25 did not go according to plan… at all.
And the weird thing is, that is more than okay.
It’s more than okay because I feel I have become a stronger person, stood up for myself more than I ever could at 25 and trust my instincts much, much more.
It’s more than okay because I’m making more time for activities that I enjoy, like writing/reading/sketching/seeing live music, and less time racking up bar tabs and trying to hold myself to other peoples’ standards. I’m more conscious of staying healthy, started listening to inspiring podcasts (I’m obsessed with Lori Harder’s success story interviews) and de-cluttered any negativity in my life.
It’s more than okay because I traveled to so many places that I only dared to dream about – including an entirely new continent – and was not stressed out if things did not go correctly. In fact, on my last trip abroad, not only did I lose my credit card and did not have a ticket on the one-way bus to Lisbon as planned, but Michelle and I ended up missing our stop in Casablanca and were stuck in Rabat for 45 minutes… which wouldn’t be as nerve-wracking if it wasn’t already past midnight or spoke Arabic. But on every occasion, we took a deep breath, figured out a different plan, and made it work.
It’s more than okay because I have surrounded myself with my family, quality friendships (old and new) plus an incredible roommate (Steph) and found an amazing boyfriend who just so happens to make me laugh till my belly aches while also being the best listener and cook.
It was a definitely a year of ups and downs, but I’ve grown so much from being outside of my comfort zone 9 times out of 10.
And I could not be more happy about it.
Cheers to 26!
