With the exception of last weekend’s getaway, this morning was the first day I actually had to reach for an actual coat in my closet… and then remember all of And of my coats were at the dry cleaners… but don’t worry, I survived 😉
Now that the weather has decided to make a shift, I’m doing the same with my skincare routine. Autumn brings cooler weather and a drop in humidity, which makes for dry, stale air and even drier skin. To prevent this, I’ve rounded up the beauty products I’m stashing up on to keep my skin looking happy, happy and hydrated all season long.
Fall is the best time to break out your richer moisturizers. I’ll admit, I’m a big Tata Harper fan (you should see my bathroom shelf), but this moisturizer is incredibly hydrating and leaves a dewy finish – perfect for pre-foundation or after washing my face. Plus, the smell is addicting.
Okay, first of all, how cute (and timely) is this packaging? Secondly, this mask packs in more nourishment than normal for a fraction of the price with pumpkin extract and 24k gold – wild, right? – for optimal results. I may even have one on as I am typing this up right now…
As the weather gets chillier, it’s best to put away the more cleansers with extra ingredients (such as exfoliates) to continue to prevent from stripping the skin and dehydrating it. This charcoal jelly ball is one of the coolest products I’ve seen on the market – you literally squish and lather the charcoal-based formula onto your face (or lather on your hands first) and massage around your face. Not to mention, Boscia is known for its botanical and all-natural ingredients, so you know exactly what is going on your skin.
Truthfully, I had never heard of Lanolips until my friend introduced it to me (she uses it for everything plus – from her lips, to eyeshadow and blush to even dry spots and cuticles – there’s a reason it’s known for 101 uses!). I couldn’t believe how quick it sealed in the moisture on my lips. Plus, it stays on incredibly well and is made with natural ingredients (are you sensing a theme? I’ve started to become very cautious about the ingredients in my products).
I love indulging in a trustworthy face oil where I don’t have to worry about breaking out or feeling like it’s too heavy on my skin. Not to mention that it leaves my skin feeling soft, hydrated and glowing for hours afterwards.
What are your favorite beauty/skincare products for fall?
I’ve never really broadcasted my beauty routine, or what kind of make-up I use, but lately I feel like that’s been everyone’s question lately. Honestly, quite a bit has to do with genetics… and the fact that A) I chug a ton of water – no joke – I have giant water bottles in my apartment and B) I love to moisturize. I exfoliate at least once a week, but I have to be really delicate. I only lightly dry my face with a fluffy towel – from the one time I got a facial, I learned you have to be especially delicate with your skin.
When it comes to make-up nowadays, I’m pretty low-key. Unless I have an event or dinner, I just put on a tap of concealer and lip gloss. Trying to get enough sleep might have also helped limit this list 😉
However, if I am doing a full-face, I do have my ritual. Once my face is cleaned, I go straight for a moisturizing lotion or gel which I keep in the fridge to reduce any puffiness or redness. I vary between a few, but Clinique ‘Dramatically Different’ Moisturizing Gel has never let me down. For primer, Laura Mercier is my go-to. I dab a little on my cheeks, nose and forehead and blend before adding foundation. It’s so light and yet it provides all of the coverage I need.
Once that’s dried, I use Physicians Formula for powder and bronzer. For bronzer, start on the upper part of your forehead and sweep down your face into the contour under your cheek bone and then along your jaw line. I especially like the bronzer because I can add a little color to my eyes if I’m running short on time.
Occasionally, I’ll brush on a tad of blush and maybe highlighter, but that’s a big occasionally. I still feel like I’m searching for the right products there, but I might smear a little lip color on my cheekbones.
When it comes to eyes, let’s just say everybody has a version of the Urban Decay Naked Palette for a reason. After brushing on a little color, I apply my first coat of mascara before fixing my brows – I’m sorry, but if you haven’t tried Glossier’s Boy Brow, prepare to become obsessed. Make sure both dry first.
After a second coat of mascara, I might add a cat eye with a liquid liner or lip color.
In my eyes, red lipstick goes with everything.
