I have to say that December is starting to become my favorite month. Growing up, “winter” was never much of a change from summer in terms of weather, but with temperatures steadily dropping, holiday lights going up and Christmas tree markets on every corner, it truly feels like the most magical time of the year.
While the countdown until Christmas has begun, I’ve already checked off a few of the items on my New York City Holiday To-Do List (see this post for the full list), but I’m looking forward to doing more today – especially with one of my sorority sisters visiting from Florida
Happy Sunday, y’all!
I’m definitely not what you would call a “trendy” girl.
Since my mid 20’s, I’ve been trying to fill my closet with timeless staples – the kind of my outfits I can slip on quickly without taking a second look in the mirror. However, I do like to incorporate a few new on-trend pieces into my wardrobe each season to add some texture to my classic ensembles.
It definitely pushes me out of my comfort zone, but that’s half the fun of playing with your style 😉
Here are my favorite five trends this fall/winter that I can get behind:
While the embroidery trend has been around since summer, I’m relieved to see it transfer nicely into fall. If you can’t tell, I’m a fan of anything feminine, and I would happily don a jacket (especially denim), sweater or shoes embracing this trend.
While I may not like to rock bright colors head-to-toe (although my stylish friend Caroline is a pro at it!), I’m perfectly comfortable in a colorful coat or bright skirt to brighten up my normal outfits.
To be completely honest, I’ve never embraced metallics as a trend, but there’s something about this year (and the season) that makes me want to take another stab at them. ‘Tis the season to sparkle.
Nothing says luxury like faux fur. Warm, function and a chic additive to any outfit.
As a Annie Hall/Diane Keaton fan, I can get behind this trend 100%. Not to mention that all of those French style interviews mention taking masculine pieces – such as an over-sized blazer or a boyfriend’s button-up shirt – and making them feminine. Consider this your key to that je ne sais quoi look.
White On White
Nothing is chicer than a solid outfit – especially in neutral colors. I love seeing white and creme-colored ensembles paired with a spirited accessory like a leopard print clutch or colorful tassel earrings.
What trends are you looking forward to rocking this fall/winter?
Minus the cooler temperatures, this week has been great. I got to catch up with some old friends for dinner and drinks (plus these sweets!) at Thursday Kitchen – which I highly recommend as a LES date spot – organize a few more things in the new apartment and try my hand at making gelato with my favorite Italian, Matt. The rest of the weekend is looking good too: movie marathons and the last bit of unpacking thanks to this rainy weather.
I recently looked at my summer calendar and realized that most of my weekends are already booked so I’m excited for a laid back weekend in my new neighborhood. I can’t believe I leave for Maine in two weeks! And did I mention my friends and I spontaneously decided to book tickets to Lollapalozza last Friday? I’m excited for summer is definitely an understatement.
What are you up to this weekend?
