As much as I love this time of year, it can be a little stressful.
The understated key word being “little.” However, the holidays don’t have to get the best of you. Instead, get the most out of what you have to offer by learning these simple tips and putting them into practice:
Do As Much Prep As You Can Ahead of Time
This includes anything from wrapping gifts early (you should see the gift corner in my apartment since Thanksgiving), setting the table early or even cooking certain items the night before. This time of year is crazy so any kind of jumpstart can go a long way.
Laugh It Off
Most of us tend to get overwhelmed when we have too much work to get done, and many of us go overboard to please others during the holidays. Instead of trying to make everyone happy, learn to breathe, relax and remember that you’re doing the best you can.
Take Time To Nurture Yourself
If need be, take a moment to focus on your well-being. Take a warm bath, get enough sleep or even take a walk. The rhythm of walking has a tranquilizing effect on the brain. Walking decreases anxiety and improves sleep, and it helps you stay alert and calm throughout the day.
A positive mindset will lead to positive outcomes. Don’t focus on the things that are making you tense and unhappy – negative thinking can trigger your body’s stress response. Try to maintain positive thoughts. An optimistic outlook will help you cope with any challenges that might come your way.
Slow It Down
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, learn not to over-schedule your time and/or take on more than you can manage. Keep in mind that it’s OK to slow down a bit and keep things on a calmer pace.
Remember the Holidays Are for Spending Time with Family & Friends
Don’t try to over-do it or stress over the things that won’t matter in the long run. The holidays are all about taking a step back, appreciating what you have and sharing quality time with your loved ones. Take time to be grateful and you’ll be happier and more centered.
