I was hoping to keep my move under-wraps until I was settled, but the secret was killing me.
It all happened so quickly, too, so now I have less than two weeks to pack up all of my stuff and get it all to New Jersey before May.
Cue feelings of excitement and panic, but mostly excitement!
I’ll be honest: I never thought I would move to New Jersey before meeting my boyfriend. Literally, never. I knew I would eventually move out of Manhattan – maybe Brooklyn, upstate, Connecticut or even down South, but again, never New Jersey. I honestly didn’t know much about the Garden State except from the references of an unfortunate reality TV series and a handful of [successful] trips to the shore. It’s crazy how my opinion has changed!
Now since I’ve been dating Matt, I’ve been exploring more of New York’s neighbor and (surprisingly) liking it. The idea of moving to a quieter, cleaner and, honestly, more of a place with a “community” feel has been an idea I’ve been toying with for months now, and as if by fate, everything just feel into place. And don’t even get me started on the PATH train – seriously 10x cleaner and nicer than the subway. I even met a girl after heading to Hoboken last week and we instantly bonded over places to shop and wine bars to the point where we exchanged numbers! (When does that ever happen??) Now I’ll definitely know the best destinations in Hoboken.
Since I work in Manhattan, and will be spending most of my time in the city in general, I’m glad to know that I’m not truly leaving NYC behind – I can see the skyline from our windows! I’m certainly not ready for that and it feels less bittersweet (the opposite, in fact).
I could go on and on about how I dreamed of moving to New York City and how many memories I’ve made during the times I’ve interned, visited and eventually lived here (it’s been over three years now!), but I’m thrilled for this next chapter in my story. The memories I’ve made in New Jersey have already started this next step in the right direction.
That’s all I can say as of now, but I will say to stay tuned 😉
