If there was anyone who wanted a three-day weekend, it was me. After a challenging month of working between 10-12 hour days while trying to balance some semblance of a social life, I need some time to refuel, catch up on sleep and refocus on my priorities. Luckily, I will be doing this “staycation” with a much-beloved member of my family, my dad. We’re planning on 72 hours of taking in the city (and hopefully a show!), catching a match or two at the US Open all while indulging in some of the city’s best restaurants.
Considering my dad is only staying a few blocks away from me, I’m looking forward to showing him around the neighborhood and finally give him a tour of my apartment. Moreover, I’m excited that his hotel’s proximity will allow me to avoid humid subway rides and us both to enjoy long runs along the Hudson. That alone will downgrade anyone’s stress level by at least 35%. Hello relaxing and exhilarating weekend ahead!
Here are a few things that are also making my last weekend of summer extra special:
Warby Parker’s limited-edition Beacon and Waterway collections have certainly caught my eye lately. While I was coveting the Beacon collection’s Ingram in Tiger Tortoise while I was vacationing on Long Island the other weekend, this time I’m obsessed with these pair from the Waterway collection. It seems fitting that the latter was dreamed up for a staycation – and how great would they look alongside the US Open tennis courts?
Not to mention that every time you buy a pair, one is donated to a person in need.
Love all, indeed.
Labor Day Sales (!)
I sat down this week with the talented Shravan Rao, the entrepreneur behind the event planning iPhone (and soon-to-be Android) application that makes creating memories with friends (i.e. brunches, concerts, birthdays) much easier to plan than your simple (and sometimes annoying) Facebook event. While there is so much more being developed, the app can already connect to your phone’s contacts, has a practical chat feature and is a lot more personal (as well as functional) in helping to plan your next get-together.
I know I’ll be using it much more this fall to gather together the people I care about in the midst of everyone’s crazy schedules. And that includes rounding up my tribe of friends for the weekly Tuesday trivia and weekend tailgate.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, y’all!
