Let me just start with the obvious: I needed (alright, wanted) a break from the city.
So when I was looking over my 4th of July plans, Charleston, South Carolina stood out. The Holy City is notorious for charming alley ways, charming shops as well as historical museums, churches and homes on every street. Plus, some of my family and friends were going to be there (including one of my roommates, M). Check.
Between shopping on Kings Street, taking advantage of the rooftop pool and spa services at Belmond Charleston Place plus good friends and the best shrimp and grits below the Mason Dixie line, you can bet I was hard pressed to leave one of my favorite destinations in the South.
Inside the BCP was immaculate – I may have made M (who was also visiting Chucktown) walk up them with me. While the guest areas were more than accommodating (the Thoroughbred Club is perfect for a drink before a night out on the town), I was obsessed with my room that was the epitome of Southern charm. I don’t think I’ve ever slept better than in one of their beds!
I even indulged in a hot stone massage at their in-house spa. I’ve received a professional massage before, and every time I initially feel a little awkward with the random person touching my back/shoulders, but the masseuse was incredible relaxed and within minutes I was dangling between sleep and trying to stay awake. Pure bliss.
Then of course, I couldn’t go without spending a day at the beach. Once a Florida girl, always a Florida girl.
Where’s your favorite place for a summertime getaway? I have my eyes set on Miami and Austin next!
