“You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.”
I know I should be talking about the Oscars, but to be completely honest, they’re still on my DVR anxiously waiting to be viewed.
Instead, this Sunday I dressed for something I’ve been dreaming about: the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon.
Now normally when I put Disney and marathon in the same sentence, I think Disney [princess] movie marathon. However, one of my goals for the year included running (yes, no walking allowed) a half marathon. And I have to say, I was blown away by the entire experience.
I could’ve adorned a tutu (the most popular look for this event by far) or a full-blown costume (if only I could show you pictures), but I chose only the runner’s essentials for my first ever attempt at a 13.1 mile race. I had been waiting for this moment for nearly five months and continuously reminded myself of that fact each time I crossed a mile mark.
While running around “glittering” in sweat (as one half marathoner’s T-shirt called it) may not exactly considered “fashionable,” going for what you want in life will always be. As I continue to move towards new goals and work to help others achieve their own today, I cannot help but notice how large a part ambition plays in creating life’s most memorable accomplishments. It might be a stretch comparing by personal, private victory to Jennifer Lawrence’s triumph at the Oscars, but there are some similarities that are hard to dispute. A dream is essential. Hard work? A must. And, with any luck, an outfit that brings out your best.
What are you hoping to accomplish this week?

P.s. A peek at my medal from this weekend – I may not feel like a princess today as my legs recover, but the memory of crossing the finish line fully satisfied is well worth the struggle.
