The first time I learned about the Jazz Age Lawn Party was back when I was just a PR intern living in Brooklyn for the summer. A full-blown flapper (hair, shoes, make-up – the works!) crossed my path and I later researched the event. The music, history and glamour grabbed me immediately. This year, it was nothing short of the party that I consider one of the highlights of the summer.
Despite a few transportation issues that morning, Matt and I were able to still make Saturday’s event just in time. Let me just say this: the band (and dancers) were sensational! We had the best time.
I love how the entire party instantly takes its guests back to the prohibition inspired era. I adore the 1920s-1930s allure and couldn’t help put take a swing on the dance floor. Seeing everyone’s costumes, snacking on delicious treats and chatting with friends provided additional entertainment.
The event is a perfect excuse for a summer picnic (when you’re not on the dance floor, of course). This year, Matt and I snacked on mini lobster rolls and lick-smacking good Ice & Vice ice cream. To cool down even more, we sipped on the signature cocktails from St-Germaine. Minus the heat, it was one of my favorite days of the summer thus far. It’s always a pleasure to go to Governor’s Island, but especially on an occasion like this.
If you plan on an event with a group of friends for next summer (there are two weekends now!), make it this one. I even ran into my old friend, Omar, below!
P.s. Here is the recipe for the St-Germain signature cocktail (so refreshing!):
- 2 Parts Martini & Rossi Prosecco
- 1½ Parts St-Germain French elderflower liqueur
- 2 Parts sparkling water
- Stir ingredients in an ice-filled glass, mixing completely. Garnish with a lemon twist.
